Rexall: Advantage 55+

Rexall Advantage 55+ is a published programme for the whole chain, and its terms are plain. Every Tuesday, shoppers aged 55 and older save 20% on regular priced merchandise when they use their Be Well card. That makes Tuesday the day to plan a Rexall shop around, especially for the health, beauty and household items you already buy there on a regular basis.

How to claim it

1. Make sure you have a Be Well card before you shop. If you do not have one, ask staff in store how to get one.
2. Plan your shop for a Tuesday, and bring photo ID in case staff ask to confirm that you are 55 or older.
3. Before you pay, present your Be Well card and ask the cashier to confirm that the 20% saving has been applied to the regular priced items in your basket.

The fine print matters here, because the exclusion list is long. The saving does not apply to sale items, prescriptions, products with codeine, insulin, gift cards, lottery, postal services, transit tickets, baby formula and diapers, prepaid phone cards or newspapers. It also leaves out cigarettes where applicable, photofinishing, and a few basic groceries: cheese, eggs, fresh milk and bread. If an item matters to your shop, ask about it before you pay rather than assuming it counts.

What this programme is not is a store by store arrangement. The age, the percentage and the day are set by Rexall for the chain, and the terms above are the ones Rexall itself publishes. Stores should all work the same way on Tuesdays, although the stock on the shelves will differ from one location to the next, as it does anywhere.

Practical tip: keep a short running list of Rexall items during the week and hold the regular priced ones for Tuesday, when the Be Well saving applies to the full list at once.
